I had to get some bloodwork done on Tuesday to check my cholesterol, thyroid and all that fun stuff. Well everything came back fine except for my hepatic function. It was slightly elevated. I have been googling and looking webmd and really havent found anything that specifically would cause that. There was mention of type 2 diabetes, hepatitis, dreaded C word. Does anyone know anything about hepatic levels? Chelle??

oh and I have to go back in a month to have it rechecked. So that seems like an eternity from now.

It could be an indication of a mild infection, though not necessarily hepatitis. The liver filters all the junk out of the blood, so if you're fighting a cold or recently got over some kind of infection (a cold or even allergies) it can cause a bump in your liver enzymes. You're having it re-checked in a month - I wouldn't put too much time in to worrying about it until you get the follow up results.

Thanks Megan! I did call back and left a voice mail for the nurse to call me back so I can write down the exact numbers for everything, including my cholesterol. I cant even remember a single number she rambled off the first time. I was going to probe her for a little more info when she does call back.

ok talked to the nurse, it was the ALT enzyme that was a little high with the number being 49 and it shouldnt be over 35. She said some of the most common causes could be someone who has a fatty liver(which from reading before being obese can cause this and I am classified as obese unfortunately) or a virus which is why they have you come back in a month and recheck because the virus would have passed in that time. I am going to do some more research now that I know a little more.

Yep what Meghan said and what the nurse told you....most of the time I've either seen it be a fluke or a fatty liver....if it stays elevated they will probably want to do a liver ultrasound just to be sure...so if they suggest that don't panic....heck my liver is fatty they saw that on my gallbladder ultrasound...I'm pretty sure...i'll have to pull that up again and see...but mine abnormal labs are usually my cholesterol! lol

First of all, let me say that I do believe in true love. But I also deeply believe in the complexity, variety, and downright insanity of love. A lucky person loves hundreds of people in their lives, all in different ways, family love, friendship love, romantic love, all in so many shades and depths. I don't think you lose your ability--or right--to have true love by loving more than one person. In part, this is true because you never love two people the same way. Another part of it is that, if your lucky, you learn to love better with practice. The bottom line is that you have to choose who you are going to commit to-that's the foundation of true love, not a lack of other options. ~Stephenie Meyer

Yep I'm thinking I have a nice fatty liver. I did read that normally if you lose 5-10% of your body weight your levels should drop. I am going to work on that. I was panicked for a short time today but after I talked to the nurse and read what Megan said I was more at ease. Still not happy about it but I feel more comfortable since I know a little more info about the causes.

I am glad these girls had some info for you because after reading this the other day I went looking and couldn't find anything. Hopefully it is nothing.
