Does anyone know how many ear infections within what about of time a child has to have, for the doctor to be concerned about putting tubes in?? Jacob has yet another ear infection and for some reason I am just worried that he is going to need tubes.

I really think it depends on the doctor. Ainsley had ear infections from 2 months of age until 4 months of age when she had tubes put in. No problems since then. I'm glad we did it. The ENT said her ear drums were about to burst when he went to put them in b/c so much pus had built up behind them. Had she only had occassional ear infections over a period of time I don't know if I would have jumped on it.

When my older ones had theirs the ENT said usually if they have between 6-8 a year thats when they discuss doing tubes. Sumaiyah had 7 in 6 months so she had her tubes done at 11 months old..

my dr said if they have 6 or more in a 12 month period..then they look into tubes being put in.I was worried about Ash needing them cuz he was having lots of infections.I researched a little & found a few links that said tubes dont always help so we decided we didnt want to put him thru getting them if there was a chance he was still gonna have problems.

I think that is what my ped said is her general rule of thumb as well, except in Ainsley's case where they never went away.

Austin had them put in right around a year old. He had the problem though that his never went away. He ended up with an allergic reaction to Penicillin because he was on so many different kinds of Penicillin. Finally I switched doctors and right away she wanted to put tubes in. It made a world of difference for him. If the rare chance he got one it would clear up in no time!
