I know A has read it and loved it....

It seems kind of heavy to me...I have a hard time with heavy books...because I like to read to escape...

First of all, let me say that I do believe in true love. But I also deeply believe in the complexity, variety, and downright insanity of love. A lucky person loves hundreds of people in their lives, all in different ways, family love, friendship love, romantic love, all in so many shades and depths. I don't think you lose your ability--or right--to have true love by loving more than one person. In part, this is true because you never love two people the same way. Another part of it is that, if your lucky, you learn to love better with practice. The bottom line is that you have to choose who you are going to commit to-that's the foundation of true love, not a lack of other options. ~Stephenie Meyer

I have read it and would highly recommend it to anyone. I don't know what would be controversial about it, I haven't heard anything to that effect. Definitely helped redefine my own faith and made me realize that my way of thinking is perfectly acceptable to God whether anyone else wants to think so or not. LOL

I have read it as well. It is very good. I don't see anything that could be controversial at all. It is one man's explanation of who God is. Michelle is right. It is kinda heavy, as you need to take your time to read and comprehend. Many ladies at church suggest reading it with a highlighter and a cup of coffee.

LOL And I told you to do it April because I didn't and kicked myself for it. LOL I have gone back through the first bit of mine and started highlighting things already. It's definitely a book to make your own, mark it up and be able to flip back to the important parts to you.

I just bought this one today. Along with 3 other books, so I am not sure which I will read first.
May I ask though, why you need to highlight? Is it just to remember certain things that occur?

Yep as April said there are so many AHA moments that highlighting it makes it so much easier to go back anytime you need to to get that AHA again. Some statements in it are just so powerful, that you want to go back to them again.

I am on chapter 3...so far its good. I like the writer- he doesnt write shallow meaningless things. Its deeper...so if you like easy reads this may not be ideal. Its thought provoking and very interesting. If I didnt have homework to do I probably would have already read the whole thing.

All I can say is WOW. Like it is so deep that I understand the sentences but cannot wrap my mind around some of the concepts it is so deep. But I love love love it. If it was shallow all meaning would be lost. Now I am understanding the need for a highlighter!!

Yep seeeeee, I reread soooo many things in there just to try and wrap my mind around it. I read 90 minutes in Heaven and loved it too but it was a much smoother read, it really reiterated what a lot of people say about Heaven and stuff but the Shack, wow. It puts the way you live your life now in a whole new light too. I have talked to Eric quite a bit about what the book says and thats why I would like to reread it and hi-light things so I can read them word for word to him.

The part where he is talking about devotions and then he sighed because to him 'devotions' was: "a tedious and boring exercise in coming up with the right answers, or rather the same old answers to the same old Bible story questions, and then trying to stay awake during his fathers excrutiatingly long prayers".
OMG it was the same when I was growing up! Dad would pull out the Bible and we would all sigh and try to stay awake. This book has made me see God in a whole entirely new way, and I think it is amazing!

I also have difficulty understanding the whole Trinity thing...one God three different beings...but this author has such a clear understanding that he describes it so great.
