BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A 4-year-old California boy may be permanently blinded after police say his father bit out one of his eyes and mutilated the other.

Bakersfield police say 34-year-old Angel Vidal Mendoza appeared to be under the influence of PCP when he attacked the boy April 28. Afterwards police say Mendoza rolled his wheelchair outside and began hacking at his own legs with an ax.

Four-year-old Angelo Mendoza Jr. told police, "my daddy ate my eyes."

Doctors at Mercy Hospital say it's unclear whether Angelo will regain vision in his right eye.

The boy's mother wasn't home at the time.

Mendoza is due in court Wednesday. Charges include mayhem, torture and child cruelty. Jail officials say they don't know whether he has an attorney.

I'm a bit ignorant when it comes to this honestly but what IS pcp? I know it's a drug and I've heard it makes people do insane stuff like this (I've also heard of people taking razors and shaving their faces off... sorry if TMI... when on this drug). I wonder why they do these things. Are they hallucinating? I know I've read they can't feel pain when under the influence of it....

It makes you hallucinate AND you feel no pain. NOT a good combination.

I don't know much about drugs either but isn't that the one that has to do with the embalming fluid? I might be wrong, i really don't know

PCP (phencyclidine) is classified as a hallucinogen and has many of the same effects as LSD, but can be much more dangerous. In the 1950's, PCP was investigated as an anesthetic, but due to its severe side effects, its development for human use was discontinued. PCP is known for inducing violent behavior and for inducing negative physical reactions such as seizures, coma, death. There is no way to predict who will have a bad reaction to the drug. Maybe this is because PCP has so many faces--it acts as a hallucinogen, stimulant, depressant, and anesthetic---all at the same time.

In its original state, PCP is a white crystalline powder. PCP is available in tablet, liquid, and powder forms and is either ingested orally or smoked by applying the liquid form to tobacco or marijuana cigarettes or by lacing these and other cigarettes, sometimes containing herbs such as mint or parsley, with PCP powder.

That made me laugh so hard Meggers.. OMG! I know this is a terrible topic and all, but that was just funny. And I agree.

I cannot imagine how horrible this world is becoming. If you are doing PCP with your kids in the house you dont deserve them!

WOW! That is incredibly horrifying and awful.

I'm just plain speechless. I want to wrap that boy in my arms and take away the pain.

How could anyone do that to anyone?!?
