LEON, N.Y. – Police cracking down on rowdy Amish youths ticketed a teenager for having beer in his horse-drawn buggy when they pulled him over on a western New York road. They said the 17-year-old was charged with underage possession of alcohol after he was stopped by deputies late Monday night in the town of Leon, 40 miles south of Buffalo.

Detective Nathan Root said the teen admitted drinking beer, but passed a field sobriety test.

Root says another Amish man in the buggy, a 22-year-old, was charged with providing the beer. Both are scheduled to be arraigned June 22.

Patrols were stepped up after an Amish elder's property was vandalized when he confronted youths about their drinking and listening to radios.

And what was their reason for pulling him over in the first place? I understand that he was underage but how can you drive a buggy recklessly? Sounds like the cop was picking on him.

From what I read about it they are just cracking down, i don't know the reason they pulled him over, like u said they probably didn't have one but they had been having issues with some of the teens in that community with listening to the radio and drinking so they are "cracking down"

umm okay...lmao obviously the 22yr old was of age to have alcohol...i so do not understand this...what just cause they are amish they can't drink???

Kristy I dont think the 22 year old got a ticket for having beer, but for contributing to a minor.

Okay am I the only one who is cracking up hysterically ovder this? Amish.....Buggy....Beer....Radios... It is all just very funny to me because come on! The Amish don't typically ever do stuff like that, it is definitely not a typical underage teen drunk driving type article.

Lol yea Adrienne I found it funny when I first read it, it just made me do a double take cuz I didn't think amish teens did any of that and to get in trouble over the radio made me giggle lol
