Well yesterday I had the scare of my life. I got a call from his new daycare. They said they laid him down in the crib and shut the door since the kids were going to be doing a loud activity. Usually they leave it open so that they can hear Ty. Well she said she didnt feel like something was right so about 30 min after laying him down for his 3 hour nap she opened the door and was knocked over from the smell of gas.
So she and another ran over to Tyler he was breathing but his lips were blue. They called 911 but were having trouble so another called me. I got there within 4 min - my work is just down the road. I rushed him to the ER. They put oxygen on him right away. The DR called for blood work to check his gas levels.
And the people poked and poked at him for 2 hours. He was screaming I was getting sick (I faint at needles) but I was being strong. So my mom finally got word and was up there the daycare worker who is a sweetheart was there helping trying to hold him down. So by this point still no blood work and the DR is yelling at the staff.
My mom then asked again why they could not do the head. and the nurse said because it would hurt him. OK you dont think digging in his arms and hands for 2 hours is fun. So the DR called the NICU staff and they came ASAP. The first nurse to walk in said "I remember you this little guy has deep veins and is hard to but a needle in". Thank God someone with some understanding.
So basically we are over 3 hours at this point the DR is ticked off and the nurse said I can get you your blood in 2 seconds. So they let my mom hold him and they stuck the needle in the side of his head by his ear and got more than enough blood.
The DR said his levles were at a 3 which was elevated but not bad. But he said it was not an accurate reading since it had been over 3 hours since the incident and they had been pumping oxygen into his system. Right after that Tyler began to puke all over.
So we stayed there for another hour on the oxygen.
So since the DH works at the fire deparmtnet part time I called down there and spoke with them. They said they couldnt give me a direct answer because of the construction they had a hard time getting into the place so they estimate that it was 45 min after I picked Ty when they tested at 11 ppm. An adult male can handle 40 ppm off and on. But they said the smell and it took them 1 hour to air it out to 0 that there was no doubt in their minds it could have killed Tyler. The chief said he was sick to his stomach when he heard a 6 month old had been in the room. He said I was lucky I had a small car to get trough the construction cones and get to Tyler because they would never have gotten him that fast. And the ER staff was waiting for us.
So tyler slept for hours after that he is still not doing too well with eating. We have a follow up tomorrow.
So there were two construction groups working around the daycare. They are supposed to notify the daycare at all times what equipment is where and for what because of the kids. Well The fire department found a generator running right beside an open window into the nursery. The guy forgot about it and forgot to tell the workers. He must have turned it on right after they laid Ty down. And its one of those new ones that is really quite. the Firefighter said you could hardly tell it was on. He said he figured since the kids were on the playground that everyone was out of the building and that he forgot about it. Plus he said he didnt figure it would hurt since the window was open and the wind was blowing.
So that was my day. DH never got to the ER since he got something in his eye and coulnt see. He didnt call someone since he knew they were al with me. So I had to go get him and take him the DR and now he has a patch on one eye.
So needless to say the construction company will be paying for the bill. and they were given a warning. I guess they were making fun of it today on the job site and one of the guys from the other construction company said "You almost killed a baby I dont find it funny". and they just laughed. So we have a meeting with their regional manager this afternoon.
