I am in need of some major help! Daegan turned 2 years old on July 2, and he is still nursing. Though I like it, and love our time, I am ready to stop. He is relentless, and seems to want it more and more and asks for it all the time. I find it so hard and I give in because he takes a fit. I am at a loss as to what to do. I hate to see him so upset. I mean it's to the point where he cries so much he starts to gag, and just repeats over and over "boob time, boob time." It breaks my heart so I just let him nurse. My husband is no help in the matter either! Any advice?

I would say wean him slowly don't just stop cold turkey or maybe even pump and put it in a cup and then he will know it comes from the cup only, then dilute BM with cows milk slowly until you are all cows milk... Thats my best advice! Good luck!

Thanks. I am trying to do it slowly, and give him milk in a big boy cup (we only use the big boy cup now, only use sippy's if we are going out and traveling) when he asks for "boob time." After I give him the milk in the big boy cup, he drinks some and seems to forget about "boob time" for a few minutes then he remembers and the meltdown begins. He drinks cows milk in the big boy cup, and also has it with his cereal. I think toddler weaning is a very heartbreaking thing to do. I wish he was the type of kid who lost interest in the boobies, but he has not. I am getting uncomfortable now because he has asked for it in front of company and I have not shared the fact that we are still nursing because I know my family is not supportive of it and I would be getting the "looks." Sorry to have gone on!

No I no what you mean and I am sure its really hard I weaned Troy when he was younger only 6 months old and he did so well but I have a friend with a 26 month old going through the same thing. Maybe you can offer something better than both cows and BM like you know maybe chocolate milk made with Ovalten (sp) and sit him down and tell him that there is no more "boob time" and now he get chocolate milk time maybe take him to the store and let him pick out and buy a cup all on his own and tell him its part of being a big boy and never look back, if you have been trying the slow weaning maybe he needs cold turkey you know... I know how it feels to want your body back though, I have either been pregnant or nursing for the last 2 years and plan to nurse this little guy for 6-8 months.

What about lotion or something to make a bad taste? Or a timer and each time increase the time. Also look at kelly mom and see what they say to dry up and do that too. I know cold cabage leaves. Maybe the taste of those would but him off too?
