I Have Too Much Spare Time ![]() |
Well, Amelia starts daycare tomorrow and still won't take a bottle. I've been meaning to tell you about a conversation I had with the lead teacher in her room for a few days now, but it just made me so mad I needed to cool off first...not that I really have just yet. This teacher was in the room when Ainsley was in there and has a really bad habit of offering unsolicited advice that sometimes moms really really don't want.
When dropping off Amelia's stuff last week, I gave her a heads up about Amelia's resistance to the bottle and that we were continuing to work on it. Her suggestion to me was to not nurse Amelia at all until she started daycare (this was Thursday!) so she'd start taking the bottle. UHM...NO! I'm not going to starve her while she is at home with me. If she really gets hungry enough then she will take it from them while I'm at work, but not nursing her at all just is not the answer for me. The whole thing just really made me mad and has had me in tears the past several days. I think I'd be crying anyways b/c I just don't want to leave her. To top it off, I told them she's never really taken a pacifier and I did not want them giving her one. Her f ing response was exactly this, "Well bring just one." I said NO, I do not want her having one. She hasn't taken or wanted one thus far and doesn't need to start it now. She then said, "Well she's just going to suck her fingers then." I told her she doesn't suck her fingers or anything to pacify herself, but that she will suck the back of her hand when she is hungry and I'm okay with that. OK...I just really needed to get that off my chest. Back to crying and getting my pump and bottles ready for tomorrow. |

Amelia has absolutely no interest in one...so why the hell would I want someone trying to get her to start taking one now when she's over 2 months old! I'm having a hard enough time with Ainsley and her pacifier. If she's going to be sucking on anything artificial at daycare...it needs to be that bottle...not a pacifier. |

what a witch! If she isn't interested in the pacifier by now, I doubt she really would even if they gave it to her, that was our experience with Isabella at least. And I wish Hailey didn't have one, we need to get rid of it!
Amelia won't starve and hopefully she will take the bottle, but I don't blame her for wanting it from mama! Hope tomorrow goes ok for you both! We will be thinking of you |

That's terrible advice, why on earth would you want to do that? Amelia will be fine, once she realizes mom isn't around to feed her she will take the bottle.
Good for you for continuing with the BFing and pumping when you go back to work!! |

Hope it went well. Ive heard of alot of people that nurseds babies not taking much during the day because they nursed on demand and form get home to get up in themorning. I dont recall you saying shes doing that. But like everyone else said she willbe fine and not starve. Hav eyou thought about having hubby try a formula bottle or a mix of bm and formula and then slowly switch her back to bm? Or a tad of juice water? It may just be that she smells and tastes bm in the bottle and knows it comes form you. Just dont tell the daycare..lol..

Well I'm still ticked off at the lady for her cra ppy advice and her request for a pacifier and am happy to report that Amelia took all three of the bottles I took to daycare. I think being out of our house probably helped the situation some. Hopefully she keeps it up the rest of the week. She nursed for awhile when we got home, took a break while I ate dinner and then nursed again for a longer than normal stretch and now is in bed.
So my day back went okay, except that Ainsley is sick. I'll post about that in the toddlers forum. |

I'm glad it went well with Amelia! I cannot believe that woman said those things - telling you to "do it anyway" when you straight out said no. Does the director of the daycare know she's giving out "advice" like that?! It's hard enough to leave your little one at daycare, let alone at a place with women like that! I hope Amelia sticks with the program.
