My milk came in only a week ago, and I've been doing really well with producing milk. Raleigh usually eats until she passes out, and then I pump both sides for whatever is left over to give her later if she needs it.
Today, my left breast has been soft and seems completely empty, when I try to pump I only get a few drops while my right side is still producing at least 1 to 2 oz. I've been making sure to nurse on both sides still.. but why would one breast stop producing and what can I do to encourage it to start again? |

Kalee,
I'm not really sure about not producing anything from the breast. The feeling isn't all that odd though. Once your milk is in, your breasts won't be so hard and full feeling even though they may produce lots of milk. I'd start taking some Fenugreek and talk to a lactation consultant and/or your OB if that breast truly isn't producing anything. GL and hang in there! |

I was reading about this just the other day because I kinda felt in the same boat. If I remember correctly, it said that just because you THINK it's stopped producing, chances are, it hasn't. It's just your body getting used to the amount your baby needs and is getting more efficient at supply and demand. One side may seem bigger or have a better supply because your baby might nurse better on that side, but it doesn't mean that the other one isn't producing. And just because you can't get anything when you pump doesn't mean it's not producing, either.
I'd also check out Kelly Mom , it has lots of breastfeeding information! |
