Hey ladies!

Since Lily sleeps 5-7 hours at a time at night now, I am finding my supply is dwindling during the day. I am getting lazy and not pumping at night so I am finding that Lily is cluster-feeding during the day. I'm wondering if maybe that's due to low production? She seems to eat every 2-3 hours and usually around 3:00-9:00 she'll eat as often as every hour and have really fussy moments in between. She doesn't sleep well during those times, either.

Anyone know of any ways to increase breast milk production without consuming extra calories (I'm trying to lose some of the baby weight) or pumping during the night? I drink lots of water and eat very well (lots of veggies, fruit and proteins) and I am not dieting at all, I just don't want or need those extra calories.

I have two weddings coming up where I will need a good supply of milk for the babysitters and as it stands I only have about 20 ounces pumped and frozen. I don't want to have to supplement with formula so any tips you might have would be greatly appreciated!

actually your body does need those extra calories... breastfeeding takes a ton out of you, so eat when you're hungry. As long as you're eating healthy and doing a bit of exercise those "extra calories" will burn off.

Fenugreek worked wonders for me when I was feeding Clarity. It makes you smell like maple syrup.. lol.. but I could definitely see an increase in production!

Alot of people swear by oat meal. And I agree you need the extra calories. Now how and what they are from id check out kellymom and see what they say .

Fenugreek worked for me. And yes you need the calories. Just an extra yogurt and a granola bar should be enough extra calories. Bake some real oatmeal cookies (not quick oats). I also got up in the middle of the night and pumped because I was engorged and leaking. If she is not sleeping soundly during the day and wanting to cluster feed I would try different ways of getting her to sleep such as swaddling, the swing, or a wrap. Once I got a good napping schedule established during the day my milk supply sorta leveled off as well.

I guess I should clarify that I am eating the recommended calories, probably over and above. I haven't reduced the amount of food I'm eating, just changed my diet to include less fats and more fruits and vegetables.

I will try this Fenugreek stuff... Where would I find it? Is it common enough that I could find it at a drug store or would I have to go to a natural food/organic store?

If I remember right I got mine at a natural food store but with it being so popular with breastfeeding.... you might be able to find it in any drug store or walmart in the vitamin/herbal supplements section.

In the states it is only sold at health stores but it might be different in Canada.

Here I cannot find it at the drug or grocery store. I have to go to a health food store. I bought some at GNC last week, not sure if they are in Canada or not.
