I Have Too Much Spare Time ![]() |
I'm going to Vegas at the end of this month for three days without Amelia. I can't find any specific instructions on flying without a baby and bring breastmilk on board. I already know that I'm going to be wiping out my entire frozen supply during the three days I'm gone. I am actually probably a bit shy right now but am hoping despite some supply issues at the moment to get enough to cover the time I'm gone. But what can I bring home? Can I bring any milk I pump while gone home...can I bring none of it or just some of it. I'm not finding clear answers. I'm getting really worried that maybe I need to introduce a little formula to her so that she can have some of that while I'm gone versus wiping out my whole supply if I can bring all my milk back.
If I can't bring it on the plane I've seriously considering packing it up well with freezer bags and putting it in my luggage...but not sure what a screener would think if they opened my bag. HELP! |

Found this on wickapedia
The FAA allows airline passengers to carry up to 2 kg of dry ice in carry-on baggage and 2.3 kg in checked baggage. I just didnt see where it says how long it would last. If they will let you carry a small cooler with you on board and its all frozen you may could cover the bottom with ice and then top it off with ice and shoudl get you home. Then if any has starte dto thaw use it 1st . |

This is the only thing I see and its off SW website I think as long as you adhear to something simular you shoudl be fine. Id Try and find out whats the largets you could carry on though. Or the smallest you could manage and pack IN one of yalls suit cases .
Perishables - Southwest does not accept Styrofoam coolers. All perishable items are accepted at the Customer's own risk. The perishables must be completely frozen and packed in a hard, durable ice chest |

Mailing it is a great idea, but we are flying out early in the AM on Sunday and going to a afternoon wedding Saturday followed by a dinner and then the reception so I would miss out on almost a days of milk to mail. I may check on the ice chest thing. Wonder if I could pack a small ice chest and pay to check it. Wouldn't be cheap, but I don't know that I could carry it on.
Guess I will call this next week and figure it out. |

Are you flying AA? If so they charge for all checked bags. Id find teh regs for carry ons and try hard to do all carry ons. If you dnt get anywhere on the phone take your pump and ask at check in . DO you have a small colasanle ice chest of some kind that you could stick in your luggage going over and carry as a carry on coming back?

Did a little more research and found this:
http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/sop/index.shtm Scroll ALL the way to the bottom and it discusses moms WITHOUT their children. Says breastmilk is considered in the same category as liquid medication, so now I'll research that and see what I find. |

If it were me I would just bring it with me in my carry on and tell them at the gate just like you do with all liquids. If they say no I would argue it (but I doubt they will). But if you have to toss it, it wouldn't be the end of the world, I know how hard it is to have a stash and how important it is when you are working. Good Luck!

TSA is also modifying the rules associated with carrying breast milk through security checkpoints. Mothers flying with, and now without, their child will be permitted to bring breast milk in quantities greater than three ounces as long as it is declared for inspection at the security checkpoint.
Breast milk is in the same category as liquid medications. Now, a mother flying without her child will be able to bring breast milk through the checkpoint, provided it is declared prior to screening. Id take that as long as you declare it you shoudl be fine . Maybe print that out and show the link and ask at check in . Then when you get to Vagas go ask at the desk again. If it can be frozen it may be better since it wouldnt be in liquid form..lol.. That may get around the "liquid form" Thing. If you ask and they say its fine have them sign the sheet and if they give you grief checking in coming back show who oked it. Id also provide about how much you expect it to be. |
